Sonam Wangchuk ends 26-day hunger strike

Indian climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his 26-day hunger strike, which he launched in solidarity with young protesters demanding action over a major examination paper leak.

Wangchuk ended his fast at around 1 a.m. local time on Thursday, in the presence of Union ministers- JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. 

 

 

In a video message, he expressed gratitude after breaking the fast and urged protesters to continue their movement peacefully. 

 

 

He also appealed to demonstrators to avoid any form of violence. 

 

Wangchuk began the hunger strike on June 28 at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, extending support to students protesting the examination paper leak controversy.
