Testimonies have begun against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two other accused in a case involving crimes against humanity committed during July and August last year.

In his opening remarks at the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday, Attorney General Asaduzzaman stated that the tribunal seeks justice through legal due process, not cruelty.

Meanwhile, Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam said the prosecution will attempt to prove the case through meticulous analysis of 13 incidents from July and August.

The demand for the highest punishment has also been put forward. For the first time, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has appeared in court as a state witness.

The trial is being conducted at Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder and two other judges. According to the prosecution, the proceedings of this high-profile case are being broadcast live with court approval.

Although former IGP Al-Mamun is named as an accused alongside Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, he is currently testifying as a state witness in the tribunal.
