Tista River flowing above danger mark

Teesta river water is flowing 10 centimetre above the danger mark at Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari for two days due to heavy rains and upstream hilly water.

The low-lying areas including Chor areas of Hatibandha, Kaliganj, Aditmari and Sadar upazilas of Lalmonirhat have been inundated.

 

To control water, the Water Development Board has opened 44 embankment of Teesta Barrage, the country's largest irrigation project located at Doani of Hatibandha Upazila.

 

Executive engineer of Lalmonirhat Water Development Board Sunil Kumar said, due to heavy rains, the water level of Teesta river may increase in the next 24 hours.

 

Meanwhile, 15 villages have been submerged due to river water entering eight unions of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district as the river water has crossed the danger level.
