Business leaders say fears of a possible fuel shortage in Bangladesh over the next two to three months have led many foreign buyers to suspend orders. They also claim some export orders are shifting to India.

According to business leaders, concerns over a potential fuel shortage in Bangladesh are now affecting international trade and export orders.

Speaking at a pre-budget discussion with the National Board of Revenue, the President of the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries, Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury, claimed that fears of fuel shortages over the next two to three months have led many foreign buyers to suspend or delay orders.

He also said some export orders are being diverted to India.

He added that orders expected in July and August have already been put on hold, raising concerns of further losses for local businesses.

During the discussion, business associations also demanded tax reforms. They also called for a business-friendly tax structure.

However, the NBR Chairman rejected the demand to reduce withholding tax, maintaining the government’s current fiscal policy stance.
