A group of students from United International University (UIU) have blocked the main road of Natun Bazar area in the capital Dhaka since this morning, protesting the expulsion of 26 final-year honours students.
As a result of the blockade, vehicular movement from Kuril Bishwa Road towards Badda remained halted on one side of the road.Allegations have emerged that police baton-charged the agitating students.
Eyewitnesses and protesting students said they were peacefully demonstrating against the expulsions and the university administration’s alleged authoritarian actions However, around 9 am, police asked them to leave.
When the students refused, police allegedly began baton-charging them and forcibly cleared them from the road. Several students were reportedly injured in the incident.
