A Dhaka court has sentenced former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury to three years in prison in a corruption case. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday morning by Judge Ayesha Nasrin of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-2.

Earlier, on July 15, the court fixed the date for the verdict after hearing the closing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.

Sur Chowdhury was accused of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income, including movable and immovable properties held in his own name as well as in the names of his dependents or under pseudonyms.

Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on December 23, 2024, after he failed to submit a wealth statement within 21 working days of receiving a notice.
