Following an intense heatwave, France is now facing devastating wildfires in its southern region. Around 3,000 residents and tourists have been evacuated from the town of Canet-en-Roussillon
On Thursday, the wildfires burned through more than 900 hectares of land across southern France. The blazes erupted after weeks of prolonged drought and record-breaking temperatures.
The largest fires are spreading across the Aude and Hérault regions.
Nearly 800 firefighters, supported by 150 specialized emergency vehicles, have been deployed to contain the flames. Meanwhile, the record-breaking heatwave across Europe has turned into a deadly disaster.
In the Netherlands, at least 480 people have died due to the extreme heat, most of them elderly. In France, the death toll has surpassed 1,000.
